National Senior Citizens Day is celebrated annually on August 21st to recognize the achievements and contributions of older adults in our society. President Ronald Reagan declared August 21st as National Senior Citizens Day August 19th,1988 through Proclamation 5847. This proclamation called for communities to ensure that seniors can live with independence. The country observes the day with activities in recognition of the impact and achievements of older adults. The day raises awareness about the issues and challenges that senior citizens may face and honor the value they are in our nation. People celebrate by spending time with seniors, organizing community events, and advocating for resources to ensure access to all!
