City of San Jose - Disability Awareness Day 2024
Disability Awareness Day is a celebration dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive community, inviting the region to come together while promoting empowerment, inclusion, and equitable opportunities.
The creation of Disability Awareness Day was spearheaded by the efforts of former City Councilmember Linda LeZotte as the council liaison for the former Human Services and Disability Advisory Commission.
The inaugural Disability Awareness Day was hosted in 2008 by Councilmember Pete Constant and continues to be hosted on the 2nd Thursday in October annually. The month of October is recognized as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) to celebrate the value and talent workers with disabilities add to America's workplaces and economy.
