On Jan. 14, the Department of General Services (DGS) will present awards to state agencies and state employees for their outstanding work with California certified small businesses and disabled veterans’ businesses. The State Agency Recognition Awards (SARA) will be held at the Scottish Rite Temple located at 6151 H Street in Sacramento from 9-11:30 a.m.

The awards ceremony will honor state departments and employees for their best practices, creativity, and outstanding achievements to award state contracts to California’s certified small businesses and disabled veterans business enterprises (DVBE). According to the National Association of Business, small businesses employ more than 51 percent of the workforce in California.

Annually, state agencies work to meet a goal of doing at least 25 percent of contracting with small businesses. Furthermore, California’s Veterans and Military Code’s goal is to purchase at least three percent of all goods and services from DVBEs.
