DGS’ long-range planning efforts were revitalized in 2016, after a year’s effort to assess each of DGS’ state-owned office buildings. From that analysis, the Real Estate Services Division (RESD) created a Ten-Year Sequencing Plan that addressed DGS’ Sacramento office space needs. In 2018, RESD updated that plan to govern DGS’ buildings outside of the Capitol region. In 2023 DGS provided an update to its planning efforts that reflected the advent of telework. Now, in 2025, DGS has published its Portfolio Plan, which demonstrates the Department’s vision for safe, sustainable, and collaborative workplaces, while transitioning excess buildings into affordable housing.
