EXCEPTIONS TO ACCESSIBILITY - 4833.1

The following exceptions are allowed for compliance with this policy:

1. National Security Systems:
   • Information technology (IT) projects for a “national security system” (FAR 39.204 Exception a(1) and 36 CFR 1194.3(a)).
2. Incidental IT Acquisition:
   • IT “acquired by a contractor incidental to a contract” (FAR 39.204(a)(2) and 36 CFR 1194.3(b)).
3. Back Office Exception:
   • IT projects “located in spaces frequented only by service personnel for maintenance, repair, or occasional monitoring of equipment (FAR 39.204(a)(3) and 36 CFR 1194.3(f)).”
4. Undue Burden:
   • Compliance that presents  “a significant difficulty or expense,” based on the resources available to the program or component for which the product is being procured.
5. No Commercial Solution Available:
   • If no commercial solution is available to meet accessibility requirements.
6. Fundamental Alteration:

• If meeting accessibility requirements fundamentally alters the nature of the product or its components.
