When determining the mode of transportation, travelers shall use the most economical means of transportation (e.g., taxi, transportation network company (rideshare), rail, bus, air, state vehicle, commercial or privately-owned vehicle). If transportation rental is selected, the customer's copy of the rental agreement or invoice will be submitted with the employee's travel expense claim or as an attachment through CalATERS. The rental should be preapproved. Any unapproved charges will be collected from the employee.
