Publication Updates for IR PC Series (1–6)

Revised Interpretation of Regulations (IRs) pertaining to the Pre-Check (PC) Design Criteria Series are now available.

The Division of the State Architect (DSA) has posted revised IR PC publications (1–6) according to the 2022 California Building Code (CBC).

IR PC-1: Pre-Check (PC) Design Criteria Freestanding Signs and Scoreboards: 2022 CBC clarifies the PC design criteria for new freestanding signs, scoreboards or ball walls submitted under the 2022 CBC. Freestanding signs, scoreboards and ball walls are defined as exterior self-supported structures with steel cantilever columns and independent foundation systems.

IR PC-2: Pre-Check (PC) Design Criteria for Modular Buildings: 2022 CBC clarifies the design criteria for new modular buildings submitted under the 2022 CBC. A modular building is defined as any building primarily constructed with modules that may be assembled onsite or in-plant, has a permanent foundation, may have an integral floor structure, and shall not be moved after initial installation without DSA review and approval.

IR PC-3: Pre-Check (PC) Design Criteria for Modular Elevator Towers: 2022 CBC clarifies the PC design criteria for new modular elevator towers submitted under the 2022 CBC. Modular elevator towers are stand-alone structures with independent systems to resist gravity and lateral loads, separate from the buildings they serve.

IR PC-4: Pre-Check (PC) Design Criteria for Open Fabric Shade Structures: 2022 CBC clarifies the PC design criteria for new open fabric shade structures submitted under the 2022 CBC. Open fabric shade structures are defined as exterior free-standing structures with open sides and a fabric canopy covering the top surface and are used for various occupancies.

IR PC-5: Pre-Check (PC) Design Criteria for Precast Concrete Buildings: 2022 CBC clarifies the design criteria for precast concrete buildings utilizing concrete wall panels under the 2022 CBC. This document does not address modular buildings, relocatable buildings, or modular elevator towers.

IR PC-6: Pre-Check (PC) Design Criteria for Relocatable Buildings: 2022 CBC clarifies the design criteria for new relocatable buildings submitted under the 2022 CBC. A relocatable building is any building with an integral floor structure that is capable of being readily moved.
